Money Demand and Inflation in Madagascar High quality books Money Demand and Inflation in Madagascar By:Koffie Ben Nassar Published on 2005-12-01 by International Monetary Fund This paper uses a two-sector model to estimate the relationship between prices, money, and the exchange rate in Madagascar during the period 1982-2004. The estimated model, using quarterly data, finds a stable long-run relationship among monetary aggregates, domestic prices, real income, and foreign interest rates. In addition, the error-correction model shows that changes in the monetary aggregates, the exchange rate, and foreign interest rates exert a significant impact on inflation. The results also suggest that a disequilibrium in the money market has a lasting impact on inflation. The paper concludes with policy recommendations. A Cointegration Analysis of Broad Money Demand in Cameroon High quality books A Cointegration Analysis of Broad Money Demand in Cameroon By:Jean-Claude Nachega Published on 2001-03-01 by International Monetary Fund This paper applies cointegration analysis and error-correction modeling to investigate the behavior of broad money demand in Cameroon over 1963/64-1993/94. The cointegrated VAR analysis first describes an open-economy model of money, prices, income, and a vector of rates of return, within which three steady state relations are identified: a stable money demand function, an excess aggregate demand relationship, and the uncovered interest rate relation under fixed exchange rates and perfect capital mobility. Empirical support is thereafter provided for both PPP and the international Fisher parity between Cameroon and France, and the stability of the short-run dynamics of the broad money demand function is confirmed. Inflation Determinants in Paraguay: Cost Push Versus Demand Pull Factors High quality books Inflation Determinants in Paraguay: Cost Push Versus Demand Pull Factors By:Brieuc Monfort,Santiago Pea Published on 2008-12-01 by International Monetary Fund This article uses two analytical methodologies to understand the dynamics of inflation in Paraguay, the mark-up theory of inflation and the monetary theory of inflation. We also study the impact of different monetary aggregates. The results suggest that monetary factors, in particular currency in circulation, play a major role in determining long-run inflation, while foreign prices, in particular from Brazil, or some food products have a large impact on the short-term dynamics of inflation. Wage indexation may also contribute to locking up price increases. This Book was ranked at 24 by Google Books for keyword Broad money. Financial Market Risk and U.S. Money Demand High quality books Financial Market Risk and U.S. Money Demand By:Woon Gyu Choi,David Cook Published on 2007-04-01 by International Monetary Fund This paper examines empirically U.S. broad money demand emphasizing the role of financial market risk. We find that money demand rises with the liquidity risk of stock markets or the credit risk of corporate bond markets. After controlling for the effect of financial market risk, money demand becomes relatively stable over the last 35 years. At the sectoral level, household money holdings continue to be stable in a traditional model controlling for a decline in transactions costs for investing in mutual funds in the early 1990s. In contrast, business money holdings have been consistently (positively) associated with credit risk. This Book was ranked at 11 by Google Books for keyword Broad money.
